Want a palette for a style we have not built yet? Tell us — palettes ship faster than full articles.

How to use a palette in a real room

Each of these palettes is built around the 60-30-10 rule, the only color rule that actually survives contact with a real apartment. Sixty percent is your wall and ceiling color — the lightest one, almost always. Thirty percent is the room's secondary surface (a sofa, a rug, the trim). The remaining ten percent is the accent — that's where the boldest color lives, and it shows up in throw pillows, art, and one piece of furniture.

The hex codes are starting points, not bibles. Every paint store mixes their own version of any given color. If you're matching a palette to a specific room, take a photo of the swatch on this page in the same light you live in — bedroom in evening light, kitchen at noon — and bring it to the paint counter as a reference. They can color-match within a single shade.

For the "shop this color" links: Amazon's color search is rough — products will be in the family, not the exact hex. Use them to gather options, then make the final call by photographing the actual product against your wall.
